I know quite a few couples who have had to turn to overseas adoptions because for one reason or another they didn't 'fit' what was wanted by local agencies. They would have welcomed a child from any country into their family, but because of age or job or because the agency didn't like something small and petty, they ended up in Russia, China or South America.
It's so sad, regardless of country, how many children are left to flounder in the system while couples who are more than willing, ready and able to open their hearts and homes are forced to jump hurdles that seem downright unreasonable.
